I've become more and more aware that I'm a man of habits.
Learning how to create new ones and break old ones has been a constant battle. And honestly, it gives me a lot of anxiety.
One morning, I found myself going down a YouTube rabbit hole looking for some self-improvement advice.
A buddy of mine put me on to Big Think a couple of years ago. Every now and then, I'll revisit their channel when I'm feeling anxious and need a little dose of self-improvement.
This time, I stumbled across a video about changing habits.
What really caught my attention was the idea of cues and rewards. Basically, understanding why we have certain habits in the first place.
And apparently, it's not always what we think.
The more I understand how my mind works, the more I realize how much of my day runs on autopilot.
Learning to recognize those moments, and being more intentional about what I do next, has helped me become a better version of myself.
Still a work in progress, though (and that gives me anxiety lol).
Turns out Charles Duhigg wrote an entire book about this stuff called The Power of Habit. It explores why we do what we do and how we can change those patterns.
If you're on your own little self-improvement journey, might be worth checking out.
